Looking for recommendations for my dd 14. She has liked Taylor Jenkins Reid, Claire Keegan, Philip Pullman and Agatha Christie. She has also read classics, like Little Women, The Outsiders and The Secret Garden. She has been struggling on what to read.

TIA

Oranges are Not the Only Fruit
Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime
Life of Pi
My Sisters Keeper

Dd 14 likes murder mystery and has read Agatha Christie, favourite authors at the moment are Holly Jackson and Karen Mcmanus.

With reference to Philip Pullman, the absolute perfect thing might be the

Gormenghast Trilogy by Mervyn Peake

If she likes Agatha Christie she’ll almost certainly like the rest of the Golden Age female crime novelists. I’d suggest

Dorothy L Sayers
Josephine Tey

as the best place to start. They’re both outstanding.

To Kill a Mockingbird
Catcher in the Rye
Rebecca

Have a look at the BBC big read top 100. It's very old now, but there are classics on there!

Avoid Colleen Hoover 🙈

Sherlock Holmes
Daphne Du Maurier
A Wizard of Earthsea
Terry Pratchett
Grapes of Wrath
Anne of Green Gables

Ok. These are the books my reading obsessed 15yo has recently got.

The girls I've been
She who becomes the Sun
Bunny - mona awad
Radio silence
Our wives under the sea
On earth we'rebriefly gorgeous
My year of rest and relaxation
Before the coffee gets cold
The atlas 6
All the light we cannot see
Book thief
shadow and bone trilogy
The fault in our stars

Also anything by Holly Jackson or Sally Rooney

She also likes Heartstopper and others by same author

If she likes Agatha Christie, then Josephine Tey, Patricia Wentworth, Ngaio Marsh (though some of those were a bit dark for me when I was 14!), Carola Dunn etc.

14 is the perfect age to read Pride and Prejudice for the first time, with a little explanation about the historical period - most teens these days know about Bridgerton so have some inkling even though it's chasms apart from Jane Austen.

If she likes Philip Pullman, has she read the great Diana Wynne Jones?
