Yawning when reading aloud - anyone?

Can anyone explain to me why I yawn every few sentences when reading aloud? It also happens when I sing at church.

Dd (32 months) loves me reading to her but this PITFA yawning is getting me down

Oh i do this too, the reading aloud thing....weird isn't it?

Do you both read fast? Yawning is the body's way of acquiring more oxygen so maybe you aren't breathing enough as you read?

I find that reading to DS2 is the fastest way to put me to sleep. Not because its boring, but because I suddenly start to unwind as I'me sitting comfortably with a child snuggled up, I just let go, and find myself yawning and sleepy.

I always yawn too, I think it's because I read at bedtime so regularly that my body equates reading aloud to "ooh sleep in half hour!"

Well, I try not to read too fast, but probably still do. I tend to talk too fast and read to myself very fast (not aloud, obviously)

So maybe, even though I try to be slower with dd it's still too fast...

Mind you the yawning in church is usually to the dirge-like slow hymns so can't be lack of oxygen there, I'd have thought... maybe just boredom....

Was hoping that someone might have a really scientific explanantion to dazzle us with....

but am glad that there are others who suffer this affliction too

Need to do some breathing exercises then....

actually when I come to think of it, I don't breath properly through my nose a lot, I find myself breathing through my mouth instead

32 months ... right, you're still on Bear Hunt, and Where's My Teddy, and Room on the Broom. And yawning.

Mine are now 8 and 7 and (when I read to them, which isn't every day) we have Alice Through the Looking-Glass and Lear nonsense verse and gory bits about crocodile hunts & electric eels that I happen to be reading myself. No yawning.

What you need is non-yawner toddler books ... Samuel Whiskers is the only one I found, but it is great

I only ever yawn when reading the word yawn. And I can't read the word aloud without yawning.

I do this too! Just thought it was me that was weird. It can be any time of day and any book too, as soon as I start the first sentence thats it I'm yawning.

Well, we've had to renew "I love you, Blue Kangaroo" from the Library as she loves it! But all books so far have had same effect...
