Hi, I’m keen to find a copy of my favourite book from
my childhood.

I don’t have a lot of information to give but hoping it might ring a bell with someone.

I was born in 1978 and I used to borrow nearly every week from my local library. Sort of mid 1980’s. It wasn’t a picture book, more kind of Anne Fine style.

I think it had a few black and white pen type illustrations in it. It was about a little girl who goes shopping with her mum and they visit a dusty old junk shop and she finds an old doll in a box of junk. I think she buys it for 20p I’m not sure what happens
after that.

I used to think it was magical and started my love of charity shops and junk shops.

I’ve searched on Amazon, eBay, abebooks. Googled all types of names it could be and I’m getting no where. I’m sure it was called the ‘The Junk Shop Doll’ but it can’t be.

the illustrations were typical 1970s/80s style.

sorry I can’t give more info. Does this book ring any bells with anyone?

It does, but sadly I can’t remember what it was called.

Was it called Ragdolly Anna? My youngest loved that book.

Raggedy Ann Stories maybe?

Wasn't she found in a charity shop bin?

I think the doll was porcelain and I’m sure she takes her home and cleans her up. It’s a really lovely story.

The Secret in Miranda’s Wardrobe by Sheila Greenwald is about a girl who finds a porcelain doll, but I think she finds it in someone’s attic, not a shop. It’s the right time period for you though (late 70s/early 80s)

Or The Little Girl and the Tiny Doll? www.amazon.co.uk/Little-Girl-Tiny-Doll-Puffin/dp/0141359447

I was thinking of The Little Girl and the Tiny Doll.
The doll is left in a freezer and a little girl sees her and drops off clothes and things like that so the doll can keep warm. Eventually she tells the owner of the shop and he gives her the doll, so they're both happy.
It doesn't sound like it, but maybe it is.
