Hi all!
I've had an idea for a picture book for a while, age range 0-5, and I was hoping someone could answer my very quick questions:

  1. Where do you hear/ find books for your kids?
  2. Any themes that you are very sick of seeing and having to read at this point?
  3. What do you want more of in children's books?

Happy if anyone could help me out :)

We find all the books in the library- my children chose some of the same ones over and over again so we went and bought them properly.

I am personally sick of pirates but thats probably because my children love pirate books so we have had them for years.

I dont know how to explain it properly but I'd love more characters that have something 'different' about them where its not the whole point of the book. Like just a casual mention of Jake going home with his Dads, not a whole book about why it's fine that Jake has two dads. Or a kid wearing ankle splints in the illustrations- but it's not a big deal.
Books are such a nice place for a kid to feel represented and it makes a difference to have Zoey the astronaut saving the moon who happens to have a little blood sugar monitoring device on the back of her arm- rather than the slightly boring book about Zoey the child getting her first blood sugar monitor.
