I'm trying to remember a children's book I read when I was about 10 (1990ish).

I thought it was called Holiday in Happy Land but I can't find it.

It was about a boy who enters a McDonalds contest to win a Disney type break by entering a slogan contest.

He gets hypnotised to think of a slogan and comes up with:

Hughey McGooey(?) is the funniest clown
Watch him drop his trousers down
With his ? so ? and his burgers so chewy
The funniest clown is Hughey McGooey

The boy wins the contest, but I seem to remember it has quite a dark ending, where apparently he has never actually come round from the hypnotism. Basically Total Recall for children.

Does this ring any bells?

This thread on Goodreads says it’s ‘Holiday in Happy Street’ by Jon Blake. www.goodreads.com/topic/show/18482833-solved-a-competition-burgers-male-character-hypnotism-and-the-fall-o
