When I was about 11 - 14 I enjoyed stories about children during wartime, evacuation. I was at secondary school between 1995 - 2000.

I was reading a book, and it started off with a group of children in treehouse, looking at a map of the World and talking about the war. They may have been sticking pins in the map.

There was a description of a little girl having to dye her dress black because she had to wear it to a funeral.

I only got a little way into the book. There was a mix up with the school librarian. He thought I wanted to return it and, for reasons I'll never understand, I didn't correct him and just returned it!

I would like to know what book it was. I realise it is unlikely I will find out though.

I don't remember details but Carrie's War was a popular school book about evacuees in WW2.
