A 70s picture book with a red-haired fisherman

Does anyone recognise what book this might be please?

A young childrens book with beautiful illustrations. The only character seems to be a red haired fisherman/boat captain.
I would really like to track it down for a friend.

I remember being read the story about the fisherman who forgot to count himself at infant school in the 1960s.

It’s a classic if so and had to track down for less than about £70.
