What would DS like if he really loved these?

DS - about to turn 7 - has always been a very quick to progress reader - and yet hasn’t really ever shown a “love for books” over sports, games etc. what I mean is - progressed rapidly at school through all bands was free reader by end of Year 1 but wouldn’t “choose” to read over watching something for example.

except ….. he’s somehow really got into a series of fantasy books randomly in the Biff Kipper stage 10 series - the strange box series. This herrObsessed. Stayed in the car whilst nursery pick ups to finish them off. I’ve never seen this before.

We’ve tried horrid Henry, wigglesbottom primary,
moody Margaret, famous five (did like these) but all were meh and nothing made him
of his own accord read.

so does anyone have any suggestions what books he’d like and read because he genuinely wants to if he liked these strange box books? He’s a free reader so can read anything but I suspect he’d like things with some illustrations and pictures ..

The Biff Chip and Kipper Time Chronicles series

My DS (also 7) loves illustrated books. He loves anything by Jamie Smart, the ‘Dog Man’ series, ‘Kitty Quest’, ‘Super Dweeb’. You could try a subscription to the Phoenix comic to see your DS likes things along these lines? (Jamie Smart’s Bunny vs Monkey series is from there) I think you can trial it for £1.

Time Hunters series and Beasts of Olympus might tickle his fancy.

Beast Quest was a favourite series for my 7 year old.

My DS(8) isn't actually reading due to additional needs, but loves listening to audio books and some of the ones that have grabbed his interest have been the Bear Grylls adventure series, The boy who Grew Dragons, and he's just started listening to a series called Skeleton Keys. I can't be sure about the reading level of these, but comprehension and content wise they'd be appropriate.

My 7 year old DS is an able reader but has been reluctant in terms of fiction so far. We picked up the 39-storey treehouse in a library sale for 30p and he absolutely loves it! The illustrations are great and he finds it really funny. For the first time ever he asked for 5 more minutes before lights out to read. Turns out it's a massive series so we are planning to source a few more.

How about the Wizards of Once series by Cressida Cowell?
