Author name - Runners

Hi, I’ve just remembered a book from when I was a kid, I’m fairly sure it was called Runners but searching just brings up loads of stuff about running so think I’ll need the author name to be able to find it. It’s about a girl who goes round classes delivering messages because she can run very fast and then she meets a boy who also runs, think he has anger issues. Does anyone know this book and who the author is?
Pretty sure it’s British but I may be wrong on that.

There’s a book called The Runner by Cynthia Voigt which certainly features a boy with anger issues. However, I don’t think the girl you mention is in it. Also it’s American. Just mentioning it as a possibility.

Another possibility is Strider by Beverley Cleary. The central character is a boy with issues in his life who takes up running, and is joined by a girl who is also a keen runner. Unfortunately I don’t have a copy to hand, so can’t check on the messages thing. It’s another American one though.

Neither of those, but thank you for your suggestions! Just hard to pin it down because I can’t remember the author or character names so it’s just coming up with stuff about running as a hobby.
Read it in about 1997 (but it may be older) so can’t remember much at all
The loner boy is very skinny and the book is in first person from the girl’s perspective.
