firefly summer

Hi everyone,

My mum was just talking to me about a story she read as a kid, and thinks it's called "Firefly Summer". I want to buy it for her as a surprise. She told me it was about/featured horses (she had horses growing up) but when I search Firefly Summer, it comes up with Maeve Binchy's story. My mum does love Maeve but it sounds like the story she's talking about was aimed at children/teens, and my mum was in her 20s by the time Maeve Binchy's story came out.

Can anyone think of any similar sounding book titles that feature horses/ponies? Thank you :-)

It's very odd, because I thought I recognised the title, but reading the synopsis of the Binchy book, I've not read that, but nor do I remember anything about horses.
I thought there was a watercolour picture of someone on a beach on the cover.

This title rings a bell with me too, OP - but the Maeve Binchy book definitely doesn't!

I've tried googling to no avail since you posted this. I'm now wondering if there's another book with a v. similar title (though it was the title that made me click and it definitely sounds right...). Horses rings a bell too. If anything comes to me, I'll let you know.

Firefly summer doesn't have horses in it.... possibly Fly by night ? KM Peyton ..

How funny that multiple people remember a similar book but not by Maeve Binchy!

I ended up asking my mum as I was at a loose end - and @Didiplanthis I think you've got it!!!! DM tells me she remembers the picture on the front of Fly By Night and recognises a name of a horse in the story. She has downloaded it and will let me know if it's right! Thank you all so much :-)

If she likes it, 'the team' is about the same characters a few years older.
