Short Christmas Books For Older Children

My kids love it when I get the stack of Christmas books down from the loft on 1st Dec. They really enjoy listening to me read a book or two at bedtime - we have the usual Father Christmas Needs A Wee, Jolly Christmas Postman type books - but they are heading towards the end of primary school now and I want to add some more grown up books to our collection. I've got the longer books, like Christmas Pig and Christmasaurus, but they've specifically asked for books that can be read in ONE NIGHT (can possibly convince them to stretch it to two nights). Any recommendations for one/two night read Christmas books that aren't too babyish? I plan to get an illustrated copy of the Michael Morpurgo writing of The Snowman, also an illustrated version of The Christmas Carol (might be too long??), and I have the new Maggie O'Farrell Where Snow Angels Go which looks perfect. So anything that's 50-100 pages-ish, preferably with colour illustrations is what I need!

The Snow Dragon
Dasher by Matt Tavares

Thank you! I've just ordered War Game (looks great!) and The Snow Dragon. Remembered at the last minute that we already have Dasher! Not sure if they will Blyton's writing style so make keep that one in reserve.

I used to have an anthology of Christmas short stories - I thought it was Penguin but searching just now i don't recognise the editor or the titles. However that sort of thing would be good - there is a penguin book of christmas stories, and one for children, and a child's christmas literary anthology.

Thank you, I'll take a look. I just found a compilation book of Michael Morpurgo Christmas stories so have ordered that.

Hey I know your post is old now but there's a new book out called "Santa claws" it's by a self published author but the book is fantastic. I'll add the link below if you want to check it for this Christmas. Thank you x

‘The Empty Stocking’ is brilliant for children who still believe in FC.

The Christmas Mystery (Christmas Fiction) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0753808668/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_VYW2PNBAA8MPG1ZA0EB8

Not a single night book, but strictly a chapter a night.
