DD loves reading series where each book takes her about half an hour to read (which is very expensive) - she has read all the Isadora Moons; the Princess in Black; the Dotty Detectives.
But I haven't done well getting her on books which take slightly longer...she has really enjoyed Roald Dahl, but now won't touch it after three chapters of the Witches scared her senseless. Narnia was a step too far for her. Any tips?

Have you tried the Dav Pilkey stuff like Captain Underpants and DogMan? It’s silly and lots of pics (DogMan is more cartoony) like Dahl.

My DD absolutely loved the Pony Club Detectives - they're rubbish but she was hooked!
Why is it expensive - use your library!

There's a fabulous website by The Reader Teacher with booklists for various age groups and also book match lists to suggest books if you like a certain author. This is the one for Roald Dahl:

If your daughter is registered with your local library, you should be able to browse the online catalogue and get them to reserve books in your local library free of charge. Assuming you are in England though.

How about trying books that are effectively a short story per chapter? Such as Clever Polly and the Stupid Wolf, or Olga da Polga?

The witches is a terrifying read. Maybe try nicer Roald Dahls Fantastic Mr Fox or the BFG? Actually BFG is a bit terrifying in places! Captain Underpants book are great! Diary of a wimpy kid very funny.
