Help finding a picture book.

It was a picture book, I think I had the paper back copy.

It was about a man who lived on a street of houses that all looked the same and were a bit sad and maybe grey. I think there was a picture of working men’s cottages.
The man paints his house a bright colour. Then all the neighbours paint their houses bright colours. Then everyone is happy! There might have been something about a rainbow in the book. There was a lot of shire on the cover.
I read it in the early 70s but I imagine it was second hand.
Thank you!

The Big Orange Splot?

OMG. While that isn’t the book the story is remarkably similar. Amazing.

The book I read had more realistic pictures. Not as cartoony or psychedelic.

Mr Pine's Purple House?

Why thank you.

It seems like the story itself isn’t that unusual. That’s not it. Same era but mine was defiantly a house in England. Maybe rows of working men’s cottages in an English Town. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t in rhyme. The drawings were more realistic.
