Hi.
Can anyone recommend some fiction books about London/anywhere in Britain and living there, moving there, settling in etc.

Or just anything that's really "British character" which would get kids excited about moving there?

Paddington, they're too old really but he's a classic, ditto Winnie the Pooh

Maybe Enid blyton

Sherlock Holmes for the elder?

TakeMeToYourLiar · 23/08/2021 11:15

Maybe Angus, Thongs and Pervect Snogging if the older is female

Also Jacqueline Wilson books are very reflective of modern Britain

@Fiddliestofsticks
There's a great Boxcar Children book where modern-day American children from Connecticut stay in London and explore British culture and famous sights while solving a mystery: The Mystery of the Queen's Jewels
The children (2 boys 2 girls) are aged 6, 10, 12, 14 if I recall correctly, so perfect for your kids' age.

Also the Alex Rider books are great for action/mystery-loving kids and teens the main character is 14/15. The first book (Stormbreaker make sure to get the UK edition, not the US edition!) is set heavily in London and Cornwall and (without spoiling the ending) has a thrilling ending at a famous London museum.

Given the trans-Atlantic context, did PB Kerr's Children of the Lamp have two NY-based child siblings visit an uncle in London on at least one of the adventures?

The London Eye Mystery
The boy at the back of the class

What about Harry Potter? They can spot locations when they get here.
David Baddiel books are quite fun and UK based - more for your 10 year old.
David Walliams books - half of MN hate him With a passion but he's sold millions and the kids like him....Grandpa's Great Escape would be good. Mr Stink.
Alex Rider are fun and there is series on Amazon too.

Thanks all.

@Mumdiva99
My son has ready the London Eye Mystery so I recommend that one. It is very good!

@Star555
Alex Rider sounds like a good idea. I suggested the Kane Chronicles for a similar reason, and that seemed to go down well.

Thanks all.

There's a Young James Bond series too.
