Such a great author, I loved the Large family, and so did all 3 of my kids. Eldest ds loved The Worst Witch too.
Jill was only 72, that’s not old Sad

I was really sad when I heard this. I loved her books as a child and we have a bookcase full of them now for the DCs ranging from 2-9years. They appeal to all ages.

hazandduck · 20/08/2021 19:52

Oh no! She’s our favourite! The Large family are our go to books every night, such warmth, humour and so relatable. Very sad x

SquirryTheSquirrel · 20/08/2021 19:53

I was saddened to read this. I loved 'The Worst Witch' when I was a little girl. It was my ambition to be a witch so I read the books almost like a manual.

marplemead · 20/08/2021 20:01

Very sad news. Peace at Last was my favourite book as a child.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 20/08/2021 20:03

I'm sorry to hear it. I'm reading 'The Worst Witch' series with my DD at the moment.

woodhill · 20/08/2021 20:05

Bought whatever Next and a bit of peace for dgd. We had them too

woodhill · 20/08/2021 20:05

RIP Gill

Aww I loved her books. Mildred got me through many a night as a child. RIP Jill.

BakeOffRewatch · 20/08/2021 20:26

I just bought “Peace at Last” (not read it before) and “Five minutes peace!” (My favourite!) today for my baby.

It’s amazing to think how many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were delighted by her books and went on to share them.

ladygracie · 20/08/2021 20:27

My class last year loved so many of her books. Very sad

LublinToDublin · 20/08/2021 20:28

She wrote wonderful books and leaves a fabulous legacy. So sad to hear she has died Sad

LizzieSiddal · 20/08/2021 20:29

So very sad to hear this news, she brought so much please to millions of children. My Dd has just bought several of her books for her baby Dd. Peace At Last was one of our favourite bedtime stories.

PostMenPatWithACat · 20/08/2021 20:29

Let's hope she may find her own peace. RIP

Just saw this too, hugely sad, she wrote with a wonderful irony so perfect for us parents - I loved all the books as a child too.

My favourite was a new find from a charity shop called 'Meltdown' - oh it is genius!

RIP Jill x

I can't remember which Large book it was, but the one where Mrs Large goes out in her posh frock with paint on the back makes me giggle every time.

Starbrand · 20/08/2021 20:32

My DS and I love worst witch what a shame and I agree with PP 72 is no age

That one is called All in One Piece. I love them all! I think my favourite is A Piece of Cake where Mrs Large has decided she is too big and puts them all on an extremely strict diet!!
poolblue · 20/08/2021 20:39

Thanks small

JacquelineCarlyle · 20/08/2021 20:46

I loved The Worst Witch books when I was young too - such a sad loss.

Puppymania · 20/08/2021 20:51

That's sad, we always say Mr Large is in charge when I go out leaving DH behind. Our children's are teens and the large books are great. Still have them all.

hiredandsqueak · 20/08/2021 20:55

Oh really sad, read the Large family books with my dc and now reading them to dgs who loves them too.

pollyhemlock · 21/08/2021 08:42

Many years ago I had four children under 9 and Five Minutes Peace was basically my life. RIP Jill.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 21/08/2021 08:45

so sad,
I loved the large family so much
