I loved reading pony stories when I was young like A devil to ride and Jill's gymkana - can anyone recommend any more recent ones I can share with my DC?

I brought all the old Jill ones from eBay for my 10 year old DD - she loved them. There must be more recent ones though - DD couldn’t get over a horse costing £40 or whatever it was!

I LOVED the Jill books and read them all again and again. Another favourite in a similar style was was 'A Pony at Blackbird Cottage' by Jo Furminger. It's out of print but still available second hand on amazon.

Ooh looks like I am off to eBay to spend money on second hand books! Thank you

DD(10) enjoyed The Racehorse who wouldn't Gallop and the two others in the series.

Also enjoyed Snow Foal.

I loved loved loved the Jill books. I also loved the Saddle Club series.

I read the Jinny books as well - by Patricia Leitch I think.

Ginger1982 · 18/08/2021 21:29

I loved Jinny and the Saddle Club as a kid!

Zarene · 18/08/2021 21:32

All the Jinny books. There are odd interesting details when you re-read as an adult (ie - the family are total 70s hippies).

aerosocks · 18/08/2021 21:34

I loved 'The House at World's End' by Monica Dickens.

Ginger1982 · 18/08/2021 21:39

I've just ordered Jinny books off Amazon! 😂

PrincessGraceless · 19/08/2021 02:30

I loved Follyfoot back in the day! Though I wasn’t into horses at all then (or I didn’t think I was - maybe that was what sowed the seed Wink).

isolatedetonate · 19/08/2021 11:12

DD is 7.

I can't wait to reread the Jinny books. Parts of them come into my head regularly...

I loved the Saddle Club series as a child.

There's a whole series of new Jill books, by Jemma Spark which follow Jill's life into adulthood as she takes up eventing - they are ok, but don't really capture the character of the originals.

But there is a new series starting, by Jane Badger, which feels much closer to the original books. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B089KS7YRD/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I can recommend 'Ned Gets Worried' which you can get on Amazon. It's about a little pony who gets anxious and his big police horse friend who helps him through.

sybaritelbee · 20/08/2021 14:06

I can recommend a sweet picture book called "Ned Gets Worried" which helps children manage anxieties through a gentle, beautifully illustrated story. You can get it on Amazon.
