Have they read older books such as The Owl Service by Alan Garner? That's from the 60s I think and it's BRILLIANT if they like a bit of mystery.

No I don't think dd has read that yet. Thank you, it sounds great (and I might read it myself too) .

Have they read the Wells & Wong series by Robin Stevens? Murder and mystery in 1930s boarding school setting.

I stumbled across it in the school library at her age and loved them (still got them on my shelf for DD when she's older).
I've never met anyone else who's read them though.
