We have lots of driving to do in the next month and need a new audio book. Kids aged 17, 14 and 12.

We have loved H.I.V.E, 39 clues, Harry Potter, The Magician / The Alchemist, Mortal Engines, How to Train your Dragon, Nothern Lights, Eragon, A Wrinkle in Time, Narnia and The Explorers. Currently LOVING Neil Gaimon's Norse Mythology and also have Ready Player Two on the go...

Hit me with your recommendations!

This is great (odd swear word but not littered with it) www.amazon.co.uk/Absolutely-True-Diary-Part-Time-Indian/dp/1478993529/ref=tmm_abk_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1627247081&sr=8-1
Or a classic like The Three Musketeers
or Around the World in Eighty Days
or Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy

Zilla1 · 26/07/2021 20:24

What do you think of Ready Player Two, OP?

ChateauMargaux · 26/07/2021 20:30

@Zilla1... there is probably a reason we have not finished it...

You might like the History Keepers (not yet finished it but first half good and similar to some on your list). Also, I have only seen Good Omens (another Neil Gaiman) on TV but that might be good as an audiobook?

ChequerBoard · 26/07/2021 20:35

The whole series of Cabin Pressure starting with Abu Dhabi and finishing with Zurich parts 1 and 2.

It's a BBC radio comedy series and is to radio comedy what Fawlty Towers is to TV comedy. Every episode is funny and heart warming and sometimes sad too. We adore it (two teens here) and it's perfect travelling listening.

I defy you not to adopt half the script as family catchphrases. 'The lemon is in play', 'you're always playing yellow car' and 'Russia continues to be stupidly big' etc. etc.

It's also free if you download the Cumberbin's Treasure podcast version

The Temeraire series by Naomi Novik - Napoleonic wars but with dragons! Very enjoyable books, and also the audio is read by Simon Vance who is excellent.

Heathofhares · 26/07/2021 20:40

The hitchhikers guide - the original radio series rather than an audiobook

Sadik · 26/07/2021 20:40

Also by Naomi Novik, Spinning Silver & Uprooted (stand alone fantasy novels inspired by eastern European folk tales)

Zilla1 · 26/07/2021 20:42

Haven't listened to it yet, OP with my DD, but I'd seen indifferent reviews. Some said it had the flaws of the first, amplified.

OrlaPeely · 26/07/2021 21:04

Bleak Expectations- Radio 4 pastiche of Dickensian/Victorian style books. VERY funny, ridiculous and starring Tom Allen.
