So if you want something for a long journey - try "Greek Myths" by Geraldine McCaughrean or the Sally Gardner Magic Children stories - especially "The boy who could fly" and "The Invisible Boy" both read by Andrew Sachs - he really brings them alive and even Ds2 who has special needs and finds it harder to follow complicated stories has really enjoyed them and requested them again and again.

And for younger children, you can get the Mog stories (Judith Kerr) and the Harry and the Dinosaurs series read by Andrew Sachs.
