Publishing process

Hi I am looking to publish some stories I have written, can anyone explain the process for me at all?

Are you looking to publish them yourself, or are you looking for a book deal with a publisher, or are you hoping to get your stories published in a newspaper/magazine?

If it's (1) or (3) I can offer some advice; unfortunately I know nothing about (2).

Also, what age group are the stories aimed at?

@LadyTrieste I'm not sure which route to take to be honest, what do you feel about the two you know?

My books will be aimed at children 0-18 with different stories for each age range. It's a life story type of book for children in care and adopted children.

I have self-published using lulu.com and found it to be very straightforward, and it has good options for formats, retail links (inc Amazon) etc.

I'm not aware of any magazines that target your intended audience but if you are, the best approach is to email the editor with a proposal/sample story and follow-up with a phone call a week later.
