What books should I get DD next

DD (6) has just started reading chapter books for fun. She has really liked Isadora Moon and Mirabelle; Princess in Black; Secret Princesses, and she quite liked Dinkin Dings. But weirdly doesn't like the huge rainbow fairies series much.

She still really likes illustrations (even better if they're colour). What might she enjoy next? I've tried Roald Dahl which I would say has been medium success so far. We read all the Worst Witch to her last year.

Sophie and the Shadow Woods
First Aid for Fairies (and other magical creatures)
Fairy Detective Agency
Ottoline
Goth Girl
There are some Winnie the Witch stores for older children too which are illustrated in colour

My kids love "A Pinch of Magic" and the subsequent sequels (I think they are called a sprinkle of sorcery and a tangle of spells). Highly recommend.

Could try Millie-Molly-Mandie, they are nice chapter stories.

The Dick King-smith Sophie books or any of his animal stories.
Daisy and the trouble with series.

NoSquirrels · 23/04/2021 14:50

Definitely Ottolibe.

Hotel Flamingo is great!

CityDweller · 23/04/2021 14:51

There are various ‘Magical ...’ series. Magical Ponies, etc etc, that DD enjoyed at that age
My naughty Little Sister?
Dick King Smith books
An Otter Called Pebble (etc, there are a bunch in this series)
Olga da Polga (about a guinea pig - DD loved these)

Fun to read aloud - as might be a bit too old yet for independent reading - with brilliant illustrations are The Bolds.

Magic Treehouse is quite perennially popular too.

Hotel Flamingo
Fabio th3 Flamingo Detective
Unicorn Academy
Jasmine Green series (titles are things like 'A sheepdog called sky')
Zoe's Rescue Zoo
Rainbow Magic (the most repetitive books ever, must be about 200now, but kids like them)
Darcey Bussell magic ballet shoes series
