Does this ring any bells with anyone? I remember loving this book as a child. I’m fairly sure it was on Jackanory. As far as I remember, a boy and his uncle invent a machine that stops people having to sleep, saving them hours of time in which they have adventures. Google is not coming up with any options - can any Mumsnetters help?

You're not thinking of the BFG are you? He doesn't have to sleep.

Hello. I remember that book. It was called Uncle Barney and the Sleep Destroyer. I was just chatting to my sister about it this morning! I remember being bought it from the book van that came to my primary school.

You are brilliant @Amyrooo that’s it! Though Sleep Defeater would have been a better name 😁

Yes , Sleep Defeater would have been a better name!
I remember vaguely something about a baby crying at the end of the story, and that was the sleep destroyer!
