For their homework they have to copy their favourite poem - except we read lots of books but not poems.

I seems to have to rhyme (which I disagree with personally).

I have the book "please Mrs Butler!" - but most of hte poems are either too long or don't ryhme or DTDs just don't "get it"

Any suggestions/authors/books greatfully received. We are off to library in an hour.

Spike Milligan does good verse for children

Also, don't rule out AA Milne - Now We Are Six or the other one that I suddenly can't remember the name of...

Anyway, think "They're changing guards at Buckingham Palace" type thing.

Spike Milligan is loved by my DDs. Anne Fine has done a couple of anthologies of poems children should know. They are called A Shame to Miss (there are three I think) and feature a wide variety of poets. There is also an anthology by Paul Cookson called Who Rules the School Now.

TY.

I think I saw a Spike Milligan one in the library last week but assumed they were too young for it.
