I don't think it makes a difference, but I can't understand why it would be relevant to teh story

I always thought that Remus and Sirius were getting it on.

fawkeoff · 20/10/2007 21:49

sirius was too dashing and was totally a ladies man.

expatinscotland · 20/10/2007 21:55

Snape was so having it off with Narcissa whilst Lucius was in jail.

Voldemort was screwing Bellatrix. I mean, she was supposed to be married to Adolphus Lestrange? Did he die in prison?

Cuz he's never around.

CrookshanksinJimmyChoos · 20/10/2007 21:58

Gives a whole new meaning to Dumbledore wanting Grindlewalds wand of power doesn't it.....

mistypeaks · 20/10/2007 21:58

I think he did you know. and i'm sure there's a reference made of her marrying him purely because of his pure-blood status.

MrsWeasley · 20/10/2007 22:01

Remus and Sirius are NOT gay......Well not in my dreams anyway

I am delighted that the news about Dumbledore is out it gives a whole lot more meaning to his early life and why he avoided the battle for so long.

As for the Gay rights chap wanting Dumbledore's sexuality more explicit in the book. FGS The man was 157 years old I dont want details

mistypeaks · 20/10/2007 22:37

ewwww wrinkly wand ( a little like Noel Edmonds Crinkly Bottom)

yes, sirius was meant to be a ladies man. riiiiiiiiiight. elaborate beard i think! ;) :D

4mum · 20/10/2007 22:42

DumbledoresGirl · 20/10/2007 22:51

Good eh Saltire?

MrsWeasley · 20/10/2007 22:56

Neville Longbottom married Hannah Abbott. Hannah became the new landlady of the Leaky Cauldron.

FlameBat · 20/10/2007 23:08

pmsl - as much as I a slightly disturbed by a sudden sexual preference announcement (I managed to nicely when my sister told me because I said "Nooooooooooooo! You can't make him GAY!" and her gay friend sat next to me asked me what was wrong with it - I was upset about the sudden announcement rather than his gayness)

Anyway, as much as I am slightly disturbed by that I am more disturbed by DumbledoresGirl being worried about dying before the end, and being sad that people who did die didn't know what happened !!!

FlameBat · 20/10/2007 23:26

Can someone remind me where that site was that had a whole list of Aberforth and the goat references? Tried to tell my sister but said I would email her the link

gigglewitch · 20/10/2007 23:56

what on earth (or wherever) has Dumbledore being gay got to do with anything - i mean anything - i'm with the earlier poster who said it's a PR / marketing stunt. All seems a bit unneccessary to me, would rather imagine things in my own little mind thanks v much JKR.

Mind you, i wish i had one of those time-rewinding things that Hermione had, sorry i can't remember what she calls it now... would certainly have lots of uses for it.

MrsWeasley · 21/10/2007 10:46

I dont think DD being gay does have anything to do with anything, it came about in an answer to a question asked during her US tour:
I'll post a quote from the linked report in the OP. Here goes:
"She took audience questions and was asked if Dumbledore found "true love".

"Dumbledore is gay," she said, adding he was smitten with rival Gellert Grindelwald, who he beat in a battle between good and bad wizards long ago.

The audience gasped, then applauded. "I would have told you earlier if I knew it would make you so happy," she said.

"Falling in love can blind us to an extent," she added, saying Dumbledore was "horribly, terribly let down" and his love for Grindelwald was his "great tragedy".

As an avid fan (just thought I'd add that in case you didnt know ) it personally leaves me with a much greater understanding of the characters early life, why he took ages to face Grindelwald etc.

Oh hermiones gadget was called a Time-Turner!

gigglewitch · 21/10/2007 22:51

Thanks Mrs W. Am enlightened.

becklespookle · 22/10/2007 12:04

Why would it be necessary to mention it in the books that DD was gay? TBH I am not surprised he was and as an adult fan it is interesting and certainly gives me more understanding of his relationship with Grindelwald.
However, I don't think that a child would necessarily gain that understanding from knowing he was gay so therefore why mention it in the books? They were written primarily for children after all!

Personally I like hearing all these little bits of extra information which were not in the books - who cares if it is just extra PR for JKR? Any extra info about HP's world just helps pull it all together for me!

southeastastra · 22/10/2007 12:18

oh i must apologise for my post. i was getting confused with the alan rickman character (can you tell i'm not a fan)

frankiemum · 26/10/2007 09:31

to me it has no relevance to the bok at all, I think it was a bit silly and rather flippent of her to say. It started out as a nice kids book, but it seems as she became richer she maybe has forgotten the kids that started following the story..
