here.

I don't think it makes a difference, but I can't understand why it would be relevant to teh story

Nor me saltire.

kitsandbits · 20/10/2007 12:40

PMSL - if its never mentioned in the books then how is he?

She just decided in her head he was secretly gay but never mentioned it in any of the books.

He also has a hidden pet poodle and 6 toes on his left foot - but thats never been mentioned either

2bamum · 20/10/2007 12:42

ummm keeps the headlines coming
and therefore the royalty cheques I presume

MaureenMLove · 20/10/2007 12:43

He is just Dumbledore, isn't he? I'd never given his sexuality any thought tbh. No, not a necessary thing to say really.

amytheearwaxbanisher · 20/10/2007 12:47

pr stunt?

fawkeoff · 20/10/2007 12:48

imo sexuality should never define a person.dumbledore is still the same wonderful man whether he likes men or women.

LaDiDaDi · 20/10/2007 12:51

It explains a bit of the stuff with Grindelwald I suppose.

WorkingClassScum · 20/10/2007 12:53

Well she did say that in a film they were going mention him with reference to a girl and if she has her character concept then it makes sense to mention it. She kept control over the films so they would remain faithful to her vision.

It actually further explains the whole Grindelwald thing as well... helping explain how he was swayed so much.

leakyR · 20/10/2007 13:17

I agree. I think it's obviously part of her character concept for Dumbledore. She seems to have let it slip to further inflame the opinions of those American christians who disapprove of her work.

The sexual orientation of Dumbledore isn't pertinant to the story which is probably why it's not mentioned. As Fawkeoff said he's still the same wonderful person whether he likes men or women. Perhaps J.K. was wanting us to reach this conclusion? A kind of post script moral message about not letting sexuality change our opinion of somebody.

Am I overthinking this?

fawkeoff · 20/10/2007 13:20

to tell you the truth fron reading the philosophers stone right to the deathly hallows i have never once thought about his sexual pereferance, and i dont think i will when i read them again.

DumbledoresGirl · 20/10/2007 13:21

No, not really. I don't fancy Dumbledore in a sexual way so it won't make much difference to me. I find it quite a turn on actually. It brings a whole new aspect to Dumbledore telling Harry in Book 6 that he knew he would be alright because Harry was there.

Am I the only HP nut who has only read Bk 7 once and can't particularly remember much about it already? It just left me cold.

DumbledoresGirl · 20/10/2007 13:23

LOL, thinking about it further, I should have been .

Where does that leave me?

fawkeoff · 20/10/2007 13:23

ive read book 7 3 times, and love it so much.I only wish that she had put in an extra couple of chapters to let us know how they all coped with the aftermath of such loss.they are all magical and special in their own way.

fawkeoff · 20/10/2007 13:24

re read it.....you have to(speaking as your wise phoenix bird)

DumbledoresGirl · 20/10/2007 13:27

Really? You know, I lived for the publication of book 7. In the 2 years between the publication of book 6 and book 7, I used to obsess that I would die before it was published and would never know the outcome. I used to think whenever someone famous died, they will never know what happens to Harry.

I ordered the book 6 months in advance. It was delivered at 8 am on the morning of publication and I began reading it straightaway.

But I have never picked it up again since finishing it. It absolutely left me cold. It wasn't that I thought it was a bad book, but it didn't move me like the others did (well, books 4, 5 and 6). I haven't evcen bothered to contribute to the discussions on MN about it.

Am I in post HP shock do you think?

fawkeoff · 20/10/2007 13:30

yea i think you are in total denial hun.I might even start reading it myself again

DumbledoresGirl · 20/10/2007 13:34

Hun? Hun?

I aint german y'know.

fawkeoff · 20/10/2007 13:36

sorry dont even know im typing it anymore.i will refrain myself so what id your fave HP book then??

rosmonster · 20/10/2007 13:38

lol @ hun!

Dg, I do think you are in shock, but I haven't read it a 2nd time either (yet )!

DumbledoresGirl · 20/10/2007 13:40

HBP definitely. Mainly because Dumbledore has his biggest role in that book. I am not DG for nothing!

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 20/10/2007 13:42

i read book 7 once. its taken me another 2 months to get half way into it again.

fawkeoff · 20/10/2007 13:45

if i had to choose it would have to be HBP, but you find out so much in the deathly hallows

singingmum · 20/10/2007 13:47

Don't just read book7 again re-read them all straight through as though one massive book.
Iam doing so now and have noticed how much I actually missed in others that is now v. relevant and also how much thought she has put into these stories down to the mention of the lovegoods long before we meet Luna amongst other things

worriermum · 20/10/2007 14:06

Well I for one wish JK hadn't mentioned it. No, I'm not a nasty homophobe,I just can't stand anything that messes with the magic she created in print. That Hogwarts universe is perfect ... if she wants to make Dumbledore gay, that's fine, but then do it in the books. But don't mess with my imaginings. Am I making any sense at all? Sorry, but us Harry nutters do tend to rave..

singingmum · 20/10/2007 14:08

The funnier side of this is of course that DD flirts in the books.......with women!!!
Sorry but when he talks to some of the female characters he is v.much flirting.
