I just wanted to recommend Hilary Mackay to anyone who hasn't come across her yet. I think they are fab - and so does 11 year old dd. Thought provoking, but not grim and very life affirming. Good boy characters too (a rarity I find) DD likes Saffy's Angel best - I like Indigo's Star.
