I’d like to start a collection of Christmas/winter themed books that my children (3 year old twins) could read through December. So far we have Stick man, Pip & Posy’s snowy day and ‘Twas the night before Christmas. What else should I include?

Gruffalo/Gruffalos child
Paddington Christmas (there's a few different ones)
I think there's a Christmas Mog book.
Santa Claus is coming to 'hometown'
Dinosaur who pooped Christmas
The Nutcracker

My kids loved Curious George A Christmas countdown.

There is an American favourite called The Snowy Day (not strictly Christmas) with an animated version available on Amazon prime.

The Snowman
Dogger’s Christmas
A House for Christmas Mouse
Paddington and the Christmas Surprise
Mog’s Christmas

Great suggestions, I’d totally forgotten about the Snowman

Katie's London Christmas.

My favourite Christmas picture book is Christmas in Exeter Street by Diana Hendry; it's funny and quirky and heartwarming. Alfie's Christmas by Shirley Hughes is lovely too.

The night before the night before Christmas by Kes Gray. This was DS's favourite last year. Really fun story and pictures

When they’re a bit older,
The Church mice at Christmas
The Grinch
Jesus’ Christmas party

Alfie's Christmas by Shirley Hughes

Percy the Park Keeper - snowy night is nice. Not Christmas but winter

Books with a bit of Christmas, for when they're older:

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
The Dark is Rising
101 Dalmatians
The Children of Green Knowe

BlueChampagne · 12/11/2020 11:44

DS1 loved "Jesus's Christmas Party" around that age.

The Tailor of Gloucester. Maybe they’re a little young, yet. But I love that book!

There’s also a Pip and Posy book called The Christmas Tree.

Alfie's Christmas by Shirley Hughes
The Christmas Show by Rebecca Patterson
Morris's Disappearing Bag by Rosemary Wells

I'm a big fan of 'Father Christmas Needs a Wee' by Nicholas Allen

Pip and Posy and the Christmas Tree is my DS favourite at the moment, much more christmassy than the Snowy Day, so I'd suggest that one too if you like the others.
Younger books wise my son also really likes Spots Christmas and Dear Santa, but at nearly 4 we won't get much longer with those.

We love all the Shirley Hughes ones: Lucy and Tom's Christmas, Alfie's Christmas, Snow in the Garden a first book of Christmas, Angel Mae, My Naughty Little Sister and Father Christmas (this one only illustrated by Shirley Hughes). There is a new Dogger Christmas book out this year too.

I love Pick a Pine Tree by Patricia Toht.

Judith Kerr Mog the cat, there are two Christmas stories.

I saw Jan Brett books suggested on here lots of times and it didn't really appeal much from googling but I got one second hand and I'm glad I did. I think we have The Trouble with Trolls and another Christmas one. There are lots of Christmas themed ones and I'd recommend getting at least one for the collection.

Dr Seuss Grinch who stole Christmas.

Richard Scarry The Best Christmas Book Ever

Lynley Dodd Christmas Crackers

There is a new Jane Hissey Little Bear one just out too, that I've bought but not read yet.
