Looking for some inspiration. DS needs a new book set to work his way through. He enjoys grown up books for kids and has enjoyed:

Harry Potter and it's sequels and prequels
Alex Ryder series
Enid Blyton
Percy Jackson series
David Walliams books
Demon Headmaster

He seems to like books with a dark edge so let me know if you can think of any suitable books.

Thanks!

DS1 loved A Series of Unfortunate Events at that age.

If he enjoyed the Alex Rider series then I would definitely recommend the Cherub series by Robert Muchamore.

The White Giraffe series by Lauren St John

My 10-year-old nephew and 8-year-old daughter both liked Eddie, Ellie and Robot Rob. The main character is a 10-year-old boy, but it's a sci-fi and light-hearted, not sure it's the type for boys who like a dark edge. The topic is modern and edgy though.

Mine loved David Almond books at that age. The one that sticks out is The boy who swam with piranahs.

They were a bit more challenging after Beast Quest no 30, 31, 32....
