Please help me recall this childhood favourite

Calling on your collective wisdom to help me recall a beloved childhood book. From my scant memories it featured a tiny yellow teddy that could fit in the pocket of a boy’s stripy pjs. It then ended up in the washing machine which became the focus of the story. Probably written 1970s or early 1980s? I’m driving myself mad trying to recall the name.

A Pocket for Corduroy by Don Freeman ( 1978) ? However the child in this is a girl , so maybe not the one.

Sadly not @pollyhemlock although I know the one you mean and thankyou so much for hazarding a guess. This one seems v obscure as google shows up nothing which looks similar. It had quite distinctive graphics and the bear slipped out of his pyjama pocket and ended up in the washing machine. Think it eventually ended up on the washing line. I fear it may not be a well known book but I loved it.
