Help! My 12yr old DS loves reading (books are always on his Christmas and birthday lists), but I am running out of ideas. He has already read the following series:

  • Percy Jackson (and other series by Rick Riordan)
  • Skulduggery Pleasant
  • Most Eva Ibbotson books
  • all the David Walliams books
  • Alex Rider
  • Artemis Fowl
  • Nevermoor
  • Cogheart
  • His Dark Materials
  • The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
  • The Tiffany Aching books by Terry Pratchett
  • Mr Monday & rest of that series by Garth Nix
  • Horrible Histories and related ones eg Maths, geography, science, etc.
Has anyone got any ideas for what I could get him next?

Thanks! I am not sure that Anne of Green Gables is quite up his street, although I loved it, but I hadn’t thought of trying it.

Depending on his character some kids that age enjoy the Hunger Games?

How about some Dickens? Great expectations/ A Christmas Carol

As he’s enjoyed Alex Rider how about the Young Bond series?

Swallows and Amazons, Tom’s Midnight Garden?

On my 12yo’s suggested summer reading list are:

A time of green magic by Hilary McKay

Boy giant son of gulliver by michael morpurgo (Ds loved this)

Lark by Anthony McGowan

In the shadow of heroes by Nick Bowling

Beyond the wall by Tanya Landman

Letters from the lighthouse by Emma Carroll

That time I got kidnapped by Tom Mitchell

Burn by Patrick Ness (Ds loves this)

Nowhere on earth by Nick Lake

the Boy Who Lied by Kim Slater (Ds loved this too)

Classics.
Dickens.
Sherlock Holmes.
The Hardy Boys? (Possibly too young).
The Book thief.
Biggles.
Just William.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I now have some new ideas! I never thought of Sherlock Holmes but I bet he’d like it. He has actually read the Hobbit. I’d not heard of the young bond series, will look it up, and the other suggestions. Many thanks!
