Niche, but.. can anyone recommend books featuring witches? 6yo has announced she wants more books about witches. We’ve read the worst witch series, some Winnie the witch, and she’s read a chapter of Witch Wars by Sibeal Pounder but I’ve not checked how suitable that is. I’m sure there’s loads I’ve forgotten that she could try. Would appreciate any recommendations.

I loved the witch family as a kid but not sure if it’s still in print

Anotherthink · 11/07/2020 21:32

Road Dahl?

Pure Dead Magic by Debi Gliori - sort of Addams family meets Mary Poppins, set in Scotland.

Diana Wynne Jones has a whole series of amazing books about Witches including one about a witch school.

Which Witch I was my favourite book as a child. It’s by Eva Ibbotson.

Ooh! Just remembered Terry Pratchett's Tiffany Aching books are aimed at younger readers.

The worst witch, I loved both the books and TV series as a kid, the series has been redone on Netflix too!

Fairymaryprincess · 11/07/2020 23:29

Oops seen that one on already sorry!

Beekeeper1 · 11/07/2020 23:36

The 'Lizzy Dripping' stories by Helen Cresswell which feature a witch

Ricekrispie22 · 12/07/2020 06:34

Gobbolino The Witch’s Cat

The Worst Witch books are great.

Not quite witches... Isadora Moon. The character is half fairy, half vampire.

Hubble Bubble... The granny is a witch.

Emma Fischel's Witchworld series nosycrow.com/product/witchworld/
Debi Gliori's Pure Dead series en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pure_Dead_series

My niece likes reading 10 Busy Brooms, the Littlest Witch, The curious little witch, and Only a witch can fly. Maybe you'll like some of them, the Littlest Witch is a favourite one because there is a cartoon too.

MrsScrubbingbrush · 17/07/2020 09:09

My DDs loved the Bella Donna books by Ruth Symes when they were that age

LaneBoy · 17/07/2020 09:13

Not sure about age but you could look at Kiki’s Delivery Service - the film is lovely but it’s based on a chapter book.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 17/07/2020 09:16

I was about to say Carbonel by Barbara sleigh but someone beat me to it!

Pacamacka · 24/07/2020 06:41

Pongwiffy by Kaye Umansky were a huge favourite of DDs when she was about that age. The characters are so funny and appealing. DD used to laugh out loud reading them.

hulahoopqueen · 24/07/2020 06:42

100% the Tiffany Aching/Wee Free Men books by Terry Pratchett, my favourites at that age!

EmBeEmBe · 24/07/2020 06:49

My 6yo loved the Bella Broomstick books by Lou Keunzler. There are 4 in all.

CountFosco · 24/07/2020 06:53

No additional suggestions but just wanted to say the Witch Wars series are crazy but entirely suitable. DD2 dressed as the lead character (complete with flat hat!) for World Book Day a few years ago.

BlueChampagne · 24/07/2020 15:58

There are also Winnie the Witch books for older readers (5-8).

Geraniumblue · 24/07/2020 21:51

There’s one called The three little Witches by Georgie Adams, which she’s just the right age for. We had the story cd as well.
