Looking for a book from the 1970's

It's a story about a farmer and his wife (early 70's!) who set off in a boat to find a cow and a chicken etc. The drawings are full of detail and in oranges and reds (that I remember). I think they are drawn as Dutch traditional dress.

Not The Cow who Fell into the Canal by Phyllis Krasilovski? Originally published in the 1950s but definitely around in the 70s.

I would second The Cow Who Fell In the Canal. The cow ends up in a market square in Gouda or somewhere, where there are market sellers with huge wheels of cheese.

Sadly it's not the cow who fell into the canal. It has quite stylised pictures with a pattern around them in flowers.

Could it be ‘The Little Wooden Farmer’
by Alice Dalgliesh, illustrated by Anita Lobel?
