She's read and loved the Linda Chapman books, done Dotty Detective, thankfully moved on from her Rainbow magic obsession. Now what?

She's not that into HP but likes books with a magic or adventure theme. She found Malory towers boring so put them aside for now.

Running out of book ideas, what next?

I don't think she'll be into David Walliams or Roald Dahl quite yet. She a strong reader but also fun loving some some the books my ds read at her age won't interest her (like Roald dahl, HP etc.)

Really stuck!

I have just finished Nim's Island by Wendy Orr with my 7 year old grandson (via Zoom). We enjoyed it and have moved on to the sequel.

A good girl hero an island, and lots of animals.

Just reeling off a few I can see on our shelves... Mariella Mystery series, Mango and Bambang series, Judy Moody series, You can't make me go to witch school and sequels, Worst Witch books, Pippi Longstocking, Nelly and the search for Captain Peabody (and sequel)

My 9 year old DD likes Wimpy Kid so I've now got her Dork Diaries. My now 17 yo DD loved them!

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 15/05/2020 22:33

Another vote for Nim’s Island
Secret Kingdom, spell sisters - both magic
Zoe’s rescue zoo & rescue princesses - both animals

Ivy & Bean - adventures of a kind & very funny.

StripyHorse · 15/05/2020 22:48

Another vote for Worst Witch. The Princess Mirrabelle books (Julia Donaldson), Jill Tomlinson books like The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark. The Accidental Prime Minister. The last one isn't about Boris.

MorbidMuch · 15/05/2020 22:53

Worst Witch
Demon Headmaster
Kaye Umansky's books (Pongwiffy series)
How to Train Your Dragon books

LadyFuschia · 15/05/2020 22:55

Amelia Fang books are lovely, Clarice Bean, Pippi Longstocking, Clever Polly & the stupid wolf. Famous five, secret seven? I read mine A little princess, and secret garden which were enjoyed but prob a bit hard to read independently!

My daughter loved the Worst witch series. We also recently read a beautiful book called I, Cosmo told from the perspective of a family dog. It's a bit tricky for a 7 year old to read but my daughter loved me reading it to her.

Definitely Worst Witch and How To Train Your Dragon! Also worth looking out for are:

Archie Greene (DD Everest)
Pure Dead Magic (Debi Gliori)
Witchworld (Emma Fischel)

Worst Witch
Wilma's Wicked Revenge/Spell (especially good if she knows fairy tales well)

Adele Geras has written a lovely series about a 7 year old ballet dancer, the first one is called Little Swan.
