A Series of Unfortunate Events is great. How about His Dark Materials?

My son loved Tonke Dragt’s Letter for the King. It’s now a Netflix series. Also 1000 Year Old Boy, Ross Welford. A series by Piers Torday - The Last Wild is the first, i think. He absolutely loved a series of books by Michelle Paver, can’t remember what they are called!

The Young Samurai series.
Noughts and crosses series by Malorie Blackman.
The dragon series by Christophe Paolini (Eragon etc)

Eagle of the Ninth series by Rosemary Sutcliff (and her other books as well)
Definitely recommend A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Also try classics (Oliver Twist, Huckleberry Finn, etc.)
