I've been trying to find a book that I read at school about child evacuees from London, two girls swapped their labels and ended up going to each other's destinations. Not much to go on I know but could anyone help?

Sorry can’t help but I read this book too

Might help to say I read it about 30 years ago!

@Passthedyson - it's stayed with me and now my child is learning about evacuation at school I really want to share it. Glad someone else remembers it.

Is it Searching for Shona? One girl is off to a village, the other going to the States but is terrified of the voyage so they swap...

The only one I remember with evacuees is Carrie's War, but I don't remember too much about the early part of the book. Could it be that?

It's not Lottie and Lisa by Erich Kästner is it? The plot line is not quite right but it last about twin girls separated and then reunited during the war.

Margaret Jean Anderson is the author. I read it 30 years ago and am still haunted by the end.

Yes, searching for Shona as a PP said.

@Latenightreader - that's the one! Great stuff, thank you.

It's available for Kindle at £1.99 - I think I'll invest!
