My DS loves funny books - he has read lots of comic style books like the Captain Underpants series, Bunny v Monkey, Tom Gates but has read most of them... and I'm looking for something a bit meatier for him now...something with a good plot / adventure as well as laugh out loud funny...
He loved the Sam Copeland series - books about a boy who turns into an animal when he's stressed, the Just William audio books and I'm reading him "The Explorer" by Katherine Rundell which is an exciting adventure as well as being funny.
Has anyone got any other recommendations?

Not necessarily meatier but if he loves Captain underpants & dog man then I highly recommend The Bad Guys series, had my DS laughing constantly!
