Another plea for help

I'm desperately trying to pin down a picture book I read when I was 5 or so - around 1980. All I can remember is that the children in the book were on a search (can't remember what for) and came across -

A lemonade lake with lollipop trees
Went down a set of stone steps (in a well?) that led to a fiery lake

Not much to go on but any ideas much appreciated!

There's a book called Nibbly Noshers that has a lemonade lake with lollipop trees,but it's a family of mice and was from 2010. Maybe it's a 'reincarnation ' of the book you're after!?
