Does anyone have any good ideas for a thriller type book for a 13/14 year old girl?
She's got into thriller type stuff on Netflix and has previously enjoyed the Hunger Games books and Harry Potter and liked the scarier parts of those books.

The 'Gone' series by Michael Grant is sort of thriller-ish.

Get the point horror series.

Point Horror books are mostly out of print but I see copies in charity shops all the time if she did get into those.

Ha! That shows my age!!

sorryiasked · 10/01/2020 06:37

At that age I was reading adult books - is that an option? If so try the James Patterson ones with the nursery rhyme titles.

gingerbread88 · 10/01/2020 09:27

Yes, adult books are fine for her - she's currently reading Dracula. I'll check all of those out, great to have book requests isn't it to get them off of their screens at this age!

How about One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus, 13 Minutes by Sarah Pinborough or The Truth About Lies by Tracy Darnton.

A trilogy by Katherine Arden, set in mediaeval Russia, sort of fairy tale, sort of horror/thriller, some adult themes but more implied/atmospheric than graphic, iyswim..

The bear and nightingale
The girl in the tower
Winter of the witch

My daughter is the same. She'd like to read Stephen King, but I think that's too much. She really enjoyed Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige. A teenage book described on Amazon as the Wizard of Oz meets Kill Bill!

LadyGAgain · 11/01/2020 23:13

I was reading Stephen king by 13

EmCamB · 16/01/2020 19:44

How about Bartimaeus - sort of a thriller and funny.

BabloHoney · 16/01/2020 19:48

Does Christopher Pike still write? Loved his books at 13!
There are some Stephen King books that are more accessible (if that’s the right word!) to a young teenager - The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, or some of the short stories.z

I loved Lois Duncan at that age! Stranger with my Face was my favourite, but she had several excellent ones.
