Books for 12year old DS

I'm looking for something different for my DS to read.
He's just started to watch Stranger things, I thought maybe stuff similar to the 'point horror' series I used to read?
He's a very capable reader, just finished the divergent series.
Any ideas?

Gone series? Hunger games?

Anything by Monica Hughes or Susan Cooper.
Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronavitch (sp?)

Hi, I suggest Artemis Fowl and Sean Yeager, both different.
There's also the Bartimaeus books which are really good.

The Darren Shan books would be perfect.

His dark materials by Philip Pullman? The Hobbit? Google Common Sense Media - I get a lot of good ideas from there.
