Books for 6-7 year old

Hi, can anyone recommend any funny books for a 6-7 year old boy who is just starting to read chapter books?

He's currently reading a series of Horrid Henry. Anything about school that he can relate to (as opposed to fantasy books with dragons etc) would be great.

Thanks!

My DS absolutely LOVES the 13 Storey Treehouse series, they’re madcap, not especially relatable but they have plenty of illustrations to help keep interest. He is 6.

We found Daisy and the Trouble with... series a good transition away from Horrid Henry

Flat Stanley
Dirty Bertie
Flying Fergus
My Brother’s Famous Bottom

Thanks so much for the great recommendations! I'm going to go through them and hopefully find one that he will likeGrin

Captain underpants

The Dragonbreath series by Ursula Vernon is very funny for that age. It's a mix of text and comic strip so won't be hard work for a child who's just getting into chapter books. Both of mine really enjoyed them.

The Magic School Bus books

Roald Dahl (some)

There's a dragon in my... series by Tom Nicoll was also really popular with ds and my nephews from 6 to 8.

Recommend "One Third Stories" if you're looking for something a bit different. These books start in English and finish in a different language - the idea is it starts to teach young children foreign vocabulary.

Enid Blyton's Malory towers went down very will when my daughter Wya started reading them. They are easy to read and relatable for people at school. I remember reading them many times as a child.

Captain Underpants is funny

Winnie the Witch too.

You Read to Me, I'll Read to You, Janet Schulman - fantastic treasury of books suitable for 6 year olds, I think there are at least 20 or more books in it, a lot of classics including older ones, and they bridge between picture books and chapter books. Its great!

The Wigglesbottom Primary books by Pamela Butchart are good for this age. Each one has three highly illustrated stories.

The School Reading list has loads of suggestions for that age group - esp first chapter books.

There's a book called 'The Wolf and the Goats' on Amazon by author 'Juned'. The story has a great message and is not your usual wolf loses against the weak.

The story teaches the importance of team work and togetherness.

Hope you like it as much as I did.

Stick & Fetch series by Philip Ardagh.

Flat Stanley has been popular here, lots of Michael Rosen too.
The Oliver Moon books are good, about a wizard at school (a bit Harry Potter light)
