Ds is 10. Development delay means he has a reading age of about 7. He also is dyslexic.

He has never read a book independently. I read to him every night.

I would love some ideas. He likes animal books.

There used to be a set of books called something like "Katie the Kind Kitten" by Holly Webb (there was a cat series and a dog series) that were about Rainbow Fairy level (but better!) my girls loved. There's also the Magic Kitten set, but I think they're slightly harder.

Brilliant. Thanks. We have just finished Casey the impossible horse. Which is just the right level.

It's also very old.

Posted this in another thread but A.F. Harrold's series about Fizzlebert Stump (the boy who ran away from the Circus and joined the Library) is a treat - there is a sealion called Fish who wears a spangly (not sparkly) waistcoat.

Mr Gum books (andy stanton) are really fun too.

My son loves the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. Although they are not about animals. There are illustrations throughout the books which maybe breaks it up a bit for my son.

DS liked these "Wild Rescue" books because they feature two children who go on adventures involving the animals.

Lucy Daniel's Animal Ark series. Animal Ark Pets are a little easier to read.
Holly Webb's Magic Kitten/Pony etc books.
Humphrey the Hamster books by Betty Birney. I think there is also an "easier" version, but I am not sure what they are called!
Sheltie books by Peter Clover.
Spy Dog/Spy Pups books by Andrew Cope.
