Hi,
I wondered if anyone could help. I'm looking for a or some books to help a 10 year old deal with low self esteem and feelings of worthlessness :(
Something maybe to help nurture emotional intelligence or mindfulness.
Any recommendations or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

I haven't read it but I have heard a lot of good things about 'You are Awesome' by Matthew Syed.

Wonder might be worth a look. Also a good read!

2BorNot2Bvocal · 03/09/2018 12:58

Also came to say Wonder.

Fiction or non fiction? And do you want books aimed at boys or girls?

Ooogetyooo · 03/09/2018 15:59

Just ordered "Boys who dare to be different" from The Book People for DS1.

You are Awsome definitely as has already been mentioned, and the journal you can get to use alongside it is great too.

You didn't say if girl or boy but The Confidence Code for Girls is excellent if it is applicable.

Another recommendation for Wonder. I haven't seen the film, so unable to comment on it, but that might be something to watch too.

I was recommended 2 books for my daughter who suffers with anxiety - this was her favourite

Also this

There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom by Louis Sachar is about this very subject. Highly recommended. Holes by the same author also tracks the changes in character of its protagonist.
Also The Midnight Fox by Betsy Byars. A lot of hers including this one deal with children with low self-esteem / fears / doubts learning to do things they didn’t think they’d be able to.

Wow, thank you everyone. I have looked up all of the titles mentioned and there are some great suggestions.

I was thinking of for a girl, but also know some boys who may benefit. And fiction or non-fiction, it doesn't matter. I appreciate your recommendations.
