darren shan vampire books

my older son is enjoying these and my 8 year old daughter is desperate to read them. amazon seems to suggest 10+. how unsuitable are they? i am pleased she is keen to read and don't want to put her off unless i have to

They aren't as bad as his demonata ones.
I just read them myself to see what I thought.
It also meant we could talk about them together.
I would say at 8 she might be a bit less keen to actually work her way through one.

thanks so much, that link is really helpful, if a bit confusing - some people say definitely not for under 13, others say 8 is fine. i think ill read them to her and then we can at least discuss whats happening.

I love these books & read them when my stepson was into them, but I would say they get worse (in terms of being more graphic) as they go along - having said that, book 2 is pretty scary! I tried a ‘Demonata’ one once & it completely freaked me out. I’m in my 30s (but I am a wuss!)

I would say about 10 so year 5/6 of primary would be ok for a child who is fine with watching stuff like Dr Who.
Demonata series I would say 12 years old plus. Definitely secondary age. They can be rather gory. Book 2 has a very sad part at the end. Would be good to read yourself to discuss. Book 3 is slawter is just a silly gorefest.

The ZomB stories are ok i actually really liked the first one. There is bad languge bullying, rasism and domestic abuse all discussed plus Zombies. I would read first before offering to a teen. Not really suitable for primary age.
