Hi,
I’m looking for recommendations for mystery type books for my 13yo dd please.

She’d love something along the lines of House is Anubis (the TV prog.)

Thanks

If she’d accept something with a historical setting, then Philip Pullman’s Sally Lockhart quartet are excellent - the first one is ‘The Ruby In The Smoke’. Victorian mysteries with a strong female teenage protagonist.

If she’d consider ‘grown-up’ books, I find the Kate Brannigan murder mysteries by Val McDermid very accessible. They are nowhere near as gothic as her later stuff, just very readable contemporary detective stories. Janet Evanovich and Sara Paretsky are worth a go, too.

Have just looked up ‘House of Anubis’...maybe the private eye novels wouldn’t suit. I would still recommend the Pullman, though. Alan Garner’s ‘The Owl Service’ would be worth a try - a mystery rooted in myth and legend with a side helping of adolescent angst?

Agatha Christie? My children have enjoyed Marple and Poirot from around age 12.
