Any suggestions please?

Heroes of Olympus
Trials of Apollo

Not similar but my son has just started the Alex Rider series and says they are really good. He has read ALL the Percy Jackson ones more than once and has been refusing to read anything else.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions so far x

Stephen Fry recently published a book on Greek gods, myths etc which DD (15) has been enjoying. Non-fiction, but I gather it is quite an easy read. I think Francesca Simon (Horrid Henry author) has also done some Greek-myth-based books but I am not sure what age they are aimed at.

DS is younger but being a massive Percy Jackson fan, really rates 'D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths'. Having had a look at it myself it seems decent for older readers too; but not sure about teens.

Also on TuneIn Radio (a free app that we have on the Kindle Fire, am sure you can get it for other tablets as well) - search for 'Greek Myths for kids' and there is a nice series of free audio 'books' narrating many of the important Greek stories.

Everything by Rick Riordan; Who let the gods out and sequel by Maz Evans;
Valkyrie series and Pegasus series, both by Kate O’Hearn. I’d second the D’Aulaire books. Norse ones are also really good. The Francesca Simon ones are aged up from Horrid Henry but are younger than Percy Jackson.

Oh - just spotted you have a teen. Think the Kate O’Hearn ones might be okay. Both have female protagonists.

Caroline Lawrence does a roman detective series - not specifically gods but ancient civilisation...

DoubleLottchen · 25/02/2018 20:07

Mary Renault - first one is called Fire From Heaven, and is about Alexander the Great.
They are written for adults, but I think accessible to teens...

Thank you...will take a look at some of these x

My son loves Greek mythology and all the Rick Riordsn books. Other young adult books he's enjoyed...

  • The Otherlife by Julia Grey
  • Wolf by Wolf and Blood for Blood by Ryan Graudin (2 books)

Artemis Fowl is in the same ball park...

Not Greek mythology, but my 11 year old has just finished Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman and he loved it.

In Year five we study a book called: The adventures of Odysseus. It's a children's version of the classic odysseus story with lots of beautiful imagery. The kids love it!

Try the Kuromori series by Jason Rohan - modern action mixed with Japanese myths.

Eight Days of Luke by Diana Wynne Jones

Lian Hearn's series based around Japanese mythology are excellent. I think the first is called Across the Nightingale Floor. It has ninjas, from memory.
