Recommendations for 10yo DD

DD will soon be 10 and I want to get her some books, individual or box sets.

She has read things like Jacqueline Wilson, David Walliams, Harry Potter, Black Beauty, Tom Gates, Roald Dahl etc.

Are there any recommendations of books I can get her? I'd like to venture towards the older classics like The Railway Children and Anne of Green Gables but it's such a long time since I've read them I can't remember if they are any good for her age. So anything along that vein would be excellent.

Thanks in advance.

DS is 10 and loved Anne of Green Gables (and Heidi)! He has also enjoyed

A Series of Unfortunate Events
Chrestomanci series
The Wizards of Once
Wonder
Archie Greene trilogy
Fabled Beast Chronicles
The Hobbit
The Dark is Rising
Green Knowe series
Narnia
A Little White Horse

He also loves Dork Diaries, which is literary bubblegum, but sometimes it's nice to have something less challenging.

some which I loved and which have gone down well with my daughters are A Traveller in Time by Alison Uttley, Moondial by HelenCresswell I think it is, Charlotte Sometimes by Penelope Farmer I think, E Nesbit books in general, Enchanted Castle, 5 Children and It etc. Some of the older ones can seem very wordy and one of my daughters has little interest in reading older ones herself but she does enjoy listening to them.

There was a similar thread just a few days ago - although I’m not sure in which topic .

Anyway, I’d bookmarked this for my own dc and also because I wanted to work my own way through them!

I absolutely loved Emily of New Moon by LM Montgomery at that age. There are at least 3 in the series. Similar to Anne of Green Gables.
Has she read anything by Anthony Horowitz? Worth looking at his books. Alex Rider is the obvious one, but Horowitz has written a lot of great books.

Phantom Tollbooth, Five Children and It, Magician's Nephew, Chocky's Challenge, Anne of GG, Little House on the Prairie. I find my kids need an extra 2 years compared to the ages I read older books, just because there's so much unfamiliar assumed knowledge (just spent an hour explaining the Victorian Sabbath to a 6yo who thought only Muslims prayed...)

DD is currently reading Skellig by David Almond. Her next one in waiting is Holes by Louis Sachar.

She loves RJ Palaci (spelling!?) and particularly enjoyed Wonder which I think is being made into a film soon
