Half-remembered school library book

I know how you all love a challenge - I’m trying to place a book I read at school (age 12 or 13, early 90s).

Some kids end up flying a seaplane on the River Medway - quite how or why I can’t remember. They may have done a bunk from boarding school. One of them had grown up in India.

It’s been niggling me ever since I was reminded of it by watching the Swallows & Amazons remake. Any ideas gratefully received!

It COULD be one of the Adventure series by Enid Blyton.

None of Blyton's have the children flying or mention the Medway.

Don't think it's Enid Blyton or at least not in the mainstream books, I had quite a few of those books (interestingly they were banned from the library so I made my parents buy them) and nothing of a river Medway comes to mind.

Was it one of the "Romney Marsh" series by Monica Edwards?

Not sure about the River Medway bit but the characters get on a plane in Enid Blytons Valley of Aventure

Thanks folks, but I don’t think either of those were it. The characters in either series don’t ring a bell for me. I also have a feeling it was a stand-alone book rather than one of a series.

Definitely not Monica Edwards no planes in any of them. Meryon stops a run away little train (the Romne,y Dymchurch Hythe one) is the closest. (nor Malcolm Saville)

I don't think it's Enid Blyton, if nothing else she didn't tend to mention real places. They are on a plane in Valley of adventure, and circus of adventure, but in both cases the pilots are unaware of them. They fly again in Secret of Killimoonin, but are flown round the valley by experienced pilots.
