I read it many years ago but I'm re-reading it with my DD. I'm only two chapters in but I'd forgotten lots of the details. For example, I'd forgotten that Judith Kerr's father was tipped off by a policeman. I really hope his good deed went undetected and unpunished. And that the family went to Switzerland first. My recollection was that they went straight to France. I wonder if the family ever got to meet 'Onkel Julius' again Sad. And if their friends 'Elsbeth' and 'Gunther' survived the war.

The author Judith Kerr wrote the Mog books.

I love Mog and love When Hitler Stoke Pink Rabbit.

There are two sequels, but the third is really adult only.

What I find great about it, is that as a child, and how she seemed to view it, it was a great adventure with a few inconveniences. As an adult you see the danger and the life for the adults which wasn't fun.

brilliant book

I loved this book and was thinking of it last night. I read it aged about 9 and it comes back to me in snippets every so often.
No way I can get my 9 year old DS to read it.

incy we're reading it together although at 13 she's a little old for being read to (we take it in turns and read half a chapter out loud each). I'm not sure if she'd read it on her own, mainly because she knows it's a book set during WWII and she knows that bad things happened, so she's a little apprehensive.

Witch I read one of the sequels but I'm not sure if I read them all. Like I say, it was a long time ago.

Mousse I haven't read any of the Mog books but I've read 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea'.
