Possibly a tall order....books about life in North Korea for a sensitive ten-year-old

DS is 10 (Y6, nearly 11) and a very able reader but quite a sensitive lad. He has recently developed a fascination with North Korea and would really like to know more about it, especially about everyday family/children's life and about how people escape to other countries. I've had a look on Amazon but there's a very limited 'young adult' selection and the handful of books on there look too old for him and/or very dry. Has anyone come across anything that he might like?

Nothing to Envy is great - off the top of my head I don’t think there’s anything too OTT for that age but maybe read it yourself first to check?

It’s written by an American who interviewed NK defectors to SK. It’s exsctly what you described - pre defection family life and how they escaped.

I'll have a look at that - thanks!
