Chapter books for 5 year old

I’ve looked recently in the library and Waterstones for relatively short chapter books for my DS who is 5 but didn’t really see anything that took my fancy. Can you guys recommend any good ones?

Magic Treehouse
Faraway Tree
Any Dick King-Smith
The Jungle Book
Smaller Dahl such as Fantastic Mr Fox, George's Marvellous Medicine etc.

We just picked loads from the library to see what he liked.

A series called Rascal by chris ? Ds loved it

Jill murphys worst witch series

Try the Stinkbomb and KetchupFace series, DS (5) adores them and they're great fun to read

The first chapter books we read successfully with my boy (aged 4 or so) were some of the Clarice Bean books (it helped that he was already familiar with the characters from the picture book).

Winnie the Pooh is also a good option...with the advantage that the ‘chapters’ are basically self-contained stories.

I agree that several of the Dick KS books would be suitable. Likewise for Worst Witch.
Look out for books by Anne Fine; she has several to might appeal.

We are reading Christmasaurus which is a lovely read for this time of year

My 5yr old DS has been enjoying the Magic Treehouse series, loads of books to choose from and all set in different places and time periods (ie dinosaurs/ancient Romans/Egyptians) so it should be easy to find some that will appeal.
He also loved a set of books featuring Mortimer Keene, short rhyming chapters and pretty funny.

Ohhh, this is great!! We're just finishing off Roald Dahl. I decided to miss The WItches and Danny Champion of the World but the rest have gone down well.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl and Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White are really great for kids. They are actually interesting.My nephew has them and he re-reads them because he loves the story so much.

The "Dinosaur Cove" >> Is this suitable for a 4 yo? or should I wait until my DS is 5? Sorry if my question is silly :)

Mine just read TheTwits by Roald Dahl and loved it! He has been given Mathilda for Christmas, he has the dvd. I think i'll work my way through all the Dahl.

He also loved the Usborne History of Flying that my dad gave him.

Sam Silver Undercover Pirate - might be a bit old for him yet, but they're worth a look.

Also Frankie's Magic Football, Captain Underpants, Magic Treehouse, Olga da Polga...

The Claude books by Alex T Smith are brilliant.

Also, Dixie O'Day series by Clara Vulliamy and Shirley Hughes.

Dick King-Smith is a genius storyteller. The Sophie books are adored here but also Water Horse and the Adventurous Snail.

Mr Gum books were appreciated by DS at similar age or just older.
